Hoover Dam

Construction of this dam is considered a technical master achievement. It bears the name of the 31st US President Herbert C. Hoover. The dam was built under large effort in the thirties and dams Lake Mead. It is approximately 50 kilometers away from Las Vegas. Without it, the “city of lights” would not at all be conceivable.

The concrete dam has a height of 221 meters and is 14 meters thick in the upper part. More than two and a half million cubic meters of concrete were used. The wall dams the Colorado. Because the states of Arizona and Nevada were both affected by it, it took quite some time until an agreement for construction could be reached.
