Arches National Park
(Delicate Arch I)

Nobody knows exactly how many stone arches are in this national park. This is work in progress. New ones emerge, old ones collapse. Nevertheless, there are some salient arches, which attract a large number of visitors. The most spectacular ones can be seen on the panorama photos.

This area in Utah was declared a national park in 1971 by President Richard Nixon. Wind, water, extreme temperatures, and naturally deep-seated saltine domes are responsible for the rock formations and arches. In the meantime, some of the arches have become so fragile that fences have been erected to prevent the visitors from coming too close.
