Panoramas of the World

Stortorget (Stockholm)

This historical square is the heart of the old part of Stockholm. It is called “Gamla Stan” and is located on an island.

For many centuries, Stockholm was located at this location. Stortorget (The Big Square) is surrounded by houses from the 18th century. The square experienced its dark past in 1520, when 80 aristrocrats were murdered before King Gustav Vasa stopped the massacre. The cobblestone pavement was covered with blood.
