Panoramas of the World

Auckland (New Zealand)

Auckland is located on an isthmus on the North Island of New Zealand between the Manukau Harbour (Tasman Sea) and the Waitemata Harbour (Pacific). Auckland is a sea port and naval base.

The city, with around one million inhabitants, is not the capital of New Zealand (this is Wellington), but is the only real metropolis in the country. The atmosphere of the city is considerably marked by its coastal location. After the New Zealanders won the America's Cup in the year 2000 (Auckland’s port was the starting point for the participants), they are particularly proud of its surname “City of Sails”. You can experience just how much the city life is determined by the wateron your way to seeing Aquarium Kelly Tarltons´s Underwater World and Antactic Encounter. The panorama picture was taken at the Tamaki Drive about six kilometers east of the city center.
