Panoramas of the World

Galleria Vittorio Emanuele

The gallery is a secular temple, which the middle class of the Milan bourgeoisie created as a monument to themselves. It was built between 1865 and 1877, the architect was Giusepe Mengoni. His work ended tragically for him - he fell off a scaffold before its completion and died.

The dome in the center of the gallery is 47 meters high. The interior dimensions correspond to the dome of the Roman St. Peter`s Basilica.
