Panoramas of the World

Qaqortoq (Greenland)

This panorama photo was taken in the harbour of Qaqortoq. The place is the largest city in southern Greenland with more than 3500 inhabitants, 3200 of which live in the city; the remaining inhabitants live in three settlements. Qaqortoq was created in 1775.

A large part of daily life takes place at the harbour itself. The city is also the training centre of the region. The largest employers are the municipality, the shipyard, and the only tannery in Greenland, the Great Greenland Garveri. At the market square, which is close to the harbour, you will find the oldest fountain in Greenland as well as some houses which were built 200 years ago, dating backto colonial times.
