Panoramas of the World

Buckingham Palace I

The Buckingham Palace, with more than 600 rooms, is probably one of the most important landmarks in London. It is located in the urban district town center of Westminster and is the official residence of the British monarch in London. State guests are received in this building. A special tourist attraction is the traditional changing of the guard.

Construction was completed in 1837, and the palace served from the beginning as the residence of the English monarchs. The very popular Queen Victoria moved in first. Later, the Victoria Memorial in front of the Buckingham Palace got her name.

Altogetheryou will find ten statues in London which were erected in honour of Queen Victoria. This one however, is particularly impressing. It is about 26 meters high and allegedly formed out of a single marble block. The gilded victory goddess on top of it is more than four meters high.
